Joel closed her eyes as soon as she heard Eriu calling Dread pathetic. Its funny how much Love can do to change a person, and even thought Joel did know what was coming she didn’t mind the idea of finally reaching the end of her road. Death was something she had been longing for quite some time now ever since Loki decided to bring her back to what many call life. Then the sensation of warm fluid sliding down on her neck made her smile calmly. No pain indeed, too bad. Pain wasn’t something she would mind. Her eyes opened for what seemed a quick second and a glimpse of Eriu was all she could see until everything went black, making her close her eyes again, still smiling.

Her brown leather coat was now dripping to the side with her black blood, Her chest moved forward and for her last possible action. Joel’s arms were wrapped on Eriu and her face on her shoulder. After feeling everything go cold again, a familiar sensation. And after feeling the warmth on Eriu she focused in her heart beat, until it made no sound.

Finally her body stool still the embrace lightened up up was not broken after what only seemed seconds passed. Nothing. Silence, no breathing no moving. Maybe Death is just highly over rated. Because nothing really happened Joel was just gone.

Eriu let her hang in her embrace for a moment, staining her own coat and blouse with pitch black blood, before she lowered herself to her knees to lay Joel’s body on the dirty pavement, among beer cans, cigarette butts and the stench of thousands of rotting fish coming with the wind from the south. “Too bad it had to end that way”, she muttered, frowning, turning Joel to lay on her back. Looked over her motionless body once, twice, trying to imagine what would she look like in a couple of years, with that motherly look in her eyes, with a bunch of blue alien-demons running around, making noise, and poor Cirillo playing their babysitter, before she pulled out of her pocket a little glass vial and placed it under the wound to catch some of Joel’s blood as she ripped the blade out. Once more she stroke her cheek, leaving some black streaks there, and then with the same blade she cut a few strands of Joel’s long hair. Tied them together and put into her pocket along with the vial.
“Well… See you in hell, I guess”, Eriu smirked, pulling Joel’s head up a bit so she could plant one last kiss on her forehead, before she left her body alone, backing away into the dark alley blonde didn’t even manage to step into, and not looking behind anymore, she left.

After a few minutes of silence the young man walked up to the body. He fell to his knees and picked up his mother craddling her gently in his arms. “Why?…. why did you just stand there?” He asked softly knowing how Joel could have easily avoided this. Eriu was tough true, But why couldn’t his mother fight back? He held the cold body in his arms slowly rocking her back and forth.

“….. I promise, I will not let this end this way… In this I swear”

Woman brushed some blond strands from Joel’s face, shaking her head softly. “You know what I adore about you? Unpredictability. That’s one of many features of madness. I miss that for some time now. Ever since you accepted seafood’s seed inside you, to be precise. My blonde was kicking her own brother out through the window for trying to play saxophone. This blonde”, Eriu tapped her finger on the tip of Joel’s nose. “This blonde is in love with a pathetic, fake invertebrate.”

Her smile turned sad as she cupped Joel’s cheek. And then before Joel could even feel it, her best friend sunk her dagger in the underside of her jaw, stroking her cheek with a thumb as she did. “It won’t hurt”, she whispered.

Woman couldn’t help that silent chuckle that escaped her, half surprised, half amused. “And there I was, for a moment naively thinking that you couldn’t get any lower”, Eriu grinned, watching her now with her eyes wide opened. Slowly walked up to her, and the closer she got, the more her expression softened. Standing before her she was almost completely calm. Her hand lifted to stoke blonde’s cheek. “You’re like a daughter to me, Joel.”

Joel remained silent with her hands still to the sides. She watched Eriu carefully. Considering the type of mother Eriu was to her own children that wasn’t exactly any type of relief, but she got the point being passed across. After all, Joel’s real mother was no good. The one who adopted her died when she needed her, and Eriu well, she came along and in her own way supported her in her youth. With one deep breath and complete calmness in her face Joel stared right back at Evora.
